DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING CONSTRUCTION ELEMENTS

Activity of the Department:

The Department of Building Construction Elements conducts researches and provides testing services concerning building construction elements. The Department performs laboratory and in-situ tests of building materials and products (concrete, metal and masonry products, mineral wool, expanded polystyrene and fastening systems) including:
  • determination of performance and resistance properties of fasteners applied in the building industry:
    • metal expansion anchors for use in concrete;
    • metal anchors and screwed-in & nailed-in plastic anchors for use in concrete, solid masonry materials, hollow and perforated bricks and hollow blocks and in lightweight concrete;
    • bonded anchors;
    • fasteners for strengthening of three-layer external wall panels made of concrete;
    • fasteners for connections performed in masonry;
    • fastening systems for facade claddings;
    • anchors for fixing of thermal insulation on walls and roofs made of concrete and profiled sheeting;
    • fastening systems for suspended ceilings;
    • screws and self-drilling screws for profiled sheeting and sandwiches;
    • powder actuated fasteners for use in concrete materials and steel structures;
    • blind rivets;
    • screws used for wood and plastic materials;
  • determination of mechanical properties of steel products;
  • strength testing for concrete and masonry products;
  • determination of physical and mechanical properties of mineral wool & expanded polystyrene products, including:
    • thermal resistance;
    • dimensional stability;
    • bending strength;
    • deformation under specified compressive load;
    • shear stress;
    • tensile strength;
    • water absorption.

The Department of Building Construction Elements has prepared the following Polish versions of the ETAGs (European Technical Approval Guidelines) developed by EOTA (European Organization for Technical Approvals) which are published by the Building Research Institute in Warsaw in the series entitled „Technical Approvals”:
  • ETAG 001 - Metal Anchors for Use in Concrete:
    • Part I - Anchors in General;
    • Part II - Torque-Controlled Expansion Anchors;
    • Part III - Undercut Anchors;
    • Part IV - Deformation-Controlled Expansion Anchors;
    • Part V - Bonded Anchors;
    • Part VI - Anchors for Multiple Use for Non-Structural Applications;
    • Annex A - Details of Tests;
    • Annex B - Tests for Admissible Service Conditions - Detailed Information;
    • Annex C - Design Methods for Anchorages;
  • ETAG 014 - Plastic Anchors for Fixing External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems with Rendering;
  • ETAG 020 - Plastic Anchors for Multiple Use in Concrete and Masonry for Non-Structural Applications:
    • Part I - General;
    • Part II - Plastic Anchors for Use in Normal Weight Concrete;
    • Part III - Plastic Anchors for Use in Solid Masonry Materials;
    • Part IV - Plastic Anchors for Use in Hollow or Perforated Masonry;
    • Part V - Plastic Anchors for Use in Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC);
    • Annex A - Details of Tests;
    • Annex B - Recommendations for Tests to Be Carried out on Construction Works;
    • Annex C - Design Methods for Anchorages
The Department of Building Construction Elements performs expertise and technical opinions for construction works and develops Recommendations for Issuing Technical Approvals (Zalecenia Udzielania Aprobat Technicznych - ZUAT) as well as technical evaluations of building products and fastening systems to be used as a basis for Technical Approvals.
